ryeX RAPIDS is awesome!

June 03, 2017

Our middle school camp is off to an amazing start! The camp is awesome, the kids are pumped and the games are messy. It is perfect!

We got there Thursday just in time to throw our stuff in our cabins and head to an early dinner. After dinner we played lots and lot of games- including classics like DoriTOES where you eat chips out of the toes of your partner and Name That Dish where you are blindfolded and have to name the foods (cottage cheese, tuna, and other assorted treats) in front of you as fast as possible. The kids had a big time!

After some worship songs our speaker, Jeff Davis, shared with us. He reminded us that we go rafting not to get to the end, but to enjoy the trip as we go. The fun is in the journey. So each night we are going to look at a different person's story and think about how God might be at work in our own journey. Thursday night we talked about Joseph from the Old Testament and how his life was full of ups and downs. But at every point God was with Joseph in his journey. After Jeff spoke, we broke into small groups to think about what he had shared with us.

We ended the evening with smores around the campfire. What a great way to kick-off camp!

Friday morning was rafting. We had a lot of nervous and excited students! Everyone did great though! At one point on the river there was a huge rock that stuck out over the river. They call it Pride Rock because it looks like the rock on the Lion King! We pulled over and the kids got out and jumped off the rock into the river! It was so fun! (Well, they said it was fun! I had to take their word for it. The water was 48 degrees. I was NOT going to jump in!) When we went through the rapids some of the kids were brave enough to "ride bull" meaning they got to sit on the front of the raft. Every single student had a blast rafting!

We are having an amazing time on this trip! Thank you for entrusting your child to us. We are so thankful for the privilege of experiencing the Holy with this group of students. Our interns, Alex and Jake, are SOOOOOO great! The kids love them! I also want to make sure you know that Jaymi, our Director of Youth Small Groups, is totally rocking this trip! This is her first retreat with us and she is AMAZING! We are so incredibly blessed to have her as a part of our team! I know your child is safe, happy fun, and learning to love the Lord under her leadership.

We will post more soon!
