Chattanooga 2016 Update #1!

June 28, 2016

Our trip is off to a great start! Once we arrived and got settled yesterday, we had yummy hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. Then we headed to our first evening meeting! We had representatives from the two main ministries we are working with this week (Widows Harvest & P52) come and share about all that God is doing in each ministry. Then, the students divided into their work groups and learned more about their specific work projects for the week. Most of our students are either scraping and painting houses or working in VERY overgrown yards. We also have a couple students working in the refugee garden. I was able to stop by a couple of the work sites today, and everyone is working so hard!

This morning we woke up bright and early (6am!) and started our day with our quiet time. Son Servants has put together a fabulous devotional that your students will be using each morning. After quiet time, we had breakfast, and then went to our morning worship session.

During the session, I spoke on Philippians 2:5-9 and linked it to the Son Servants mission statement: To Love is to Serve. The students were challenged to imitate Christ's humility this week and every week because in order to love the way Jesus did, we have to think of ourselves less.

After morning worship, everyone headed to their work sites! We all should be back to camp in about an hour, and I can't wait to hear stories from the work day! We will probably take those who want to over to the lake to swim, and then everyone will get cleaned up right before dinner!

I will update again tomorrow and hopefully include some photos! Thank you for letting us serve with your students this week! We love them!
