What is
Confirmation?

Confirmation is a vital component of the ryeX Youth Ministry. Students eighth grade and older, have the opportunity to explore, question, and enrich their faith in a safe environment. This is their time to claim their faith as their own by professing Jesus as their Savior and Lord, and then becoming members of the church. Students take a look at the fundamentals of the Christian faith as well as important aspects of Presbyterianism.

Classes will kick-off with the Confirmation Retreat on Saturday, January 6, 2024, and continue every week (Sunday mornings) until Confirmation Sunday in April.

Class of 2024

Welcome to our ryeX Confirmation page. On this page, you will be able to find our schedule, registration links, information about individual events, and so much more! During Confirmation, we strive to teach students about God in an engaging and interactive way. Through our 12 classes, students will cover a variety of material about God, the church, and the greater Christian community. If you have any questions about confirmation, feel free to contact Kerri Irwin at kerri@roswellpres.org.

Classes &

Expectations

Confirmation classes are generally held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings beginning in January and continuing through March.

Students are expected to attend all classes, the retreat held for a weekend in early January, the service day, both services with other congregations, and all three scheduled RPC worship services. Students are allowed no more than two excused absences. If students miss a class, they must notify their teachers in order to make up the material.

Class Retreat

The Confirmation classes will kick-off with a retreat at RPC the in early January.  On the retreat, we’ll spend time playing games, talking, and worshiping as well as have our first three classes. Therefore, this retreat counts as three of the twelve required classes.

Service Project

During Confirmation, students have the opportunity to put their faith in action by working with RPC’s local mission partners helping to serve breakfast to the homeless at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

Visiting Congregations

Students will have two opportunities to worship with other churches. Afterwards, we will debrief, ask questions, and share experiences. This is a required part of confirmation and counts for two separate classes.

Parent Track Classes

A parent track is offered that runs concurrent to the student track. Parent Track classes will be held in Alderman Hall from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on the following 2024 dates: Sundays January 7, 21, 28 February 4, 25 and March 24. We invite all parents of the current confirmation class to attend and learn more about what their students are learning. Our hope is that this will foster discussion at home and a better understanding of what your students are undertaking.

Mentors

Mentors are an invaluable part of the confirmation process. Each student will select an adult mentor who will guide them through the Confirmation process.

Mentors get to know the students, help them work through questions along the way, assist them in writing their statement of faith, and pray for them. This is a great way for students to get to know someone outside their age group at RPC.
